Cesar Chavez Prep Public Charter School

Hi! This is the beginning of our introduction.

Cesar Chavez Prep is a school for 6th to 9th graders that specializes in public policy. We are in the middle of Washington, DC at 770 Kenyon St. NW. (So you can look us up on Google Maps.) We are a 15-minute drive to the White House, but only one of us, Nasim and twin brother, Noorudin, sometimes go walking around there on the weekends. The rest of us only see the White House on field trips or when we drive by it.

Public policy means that you have the right to study a problem and to solve the problem.

You might wonder who Cesar Chavez was. He was a Hispanic man who “fought” with words and took action to get fair wages for Hispanics who were working on farms and having low wages and bad living conditions.

We all want to be here. Prep is a charter school and we had to apply to attend. We think that you’d like coming to visit us. You can play Clash with us, and play soccer with us — if you’re good, we really want you on our teams (girls and boys) this spring. Last fall, the boys took 2nd place in the league and the girls played in the quarter-finals.

You’d like our teachers. We do interesting things. Like in history and science, we turned 24 chickens into mummies. We’re waiting for them to dry now and see what happens. It was gross and stinky but fun in the end. We were thinking about how disgusting it would be to mummify a human.

The best time to come visit us is when the cherry blossoms bloom at the end of March, but it is still pretty cold then.

We are a group of six, seventh-grade students who were complaining to our English language arts teachers that the work was too easy for us. We are good readers, we have talents and we want to help the world. Ms. Rivera told us about this Circle. We want the challenge. We are making a poster here during our first class.

Here we are, from left to right:

Rosa is a perfectionist who loves to draw and she is funny and is a athletic girl. She likes Chipotle.

Kalin loves to draw and read. She is shy, a perfectionist, and friendly. She thinks fast and works fast. She finishes her work in about 10 minutes.

Ibrahim is teaching himself Japanese because he wants to understand the Japanese shows, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider better. He is learning Japanese by listening to the videos and reading the English subtitles.

Nasim is lively and smart and likes to have fun. He has a twin brother, Noorudin, who sometimes joins our group when we stay after school to work on this project. They look a lot alike.

Chris is a good friend to everyone he meets. Hes really good in mathhes already good in algebra. Chris had to learn English as a second language.

Marco is funny and nice. He really likes to play FIFA 15, a video game. He plays on the Prep soccer team.

Hi Cathy and students,
that's so interesting to know why your school named after Cesar Chavez.
I saw you during our Skype session and think that teacher and student fotos will bring more details in your introductions.
